Rear Bouncing after Leaf Install
Hey guys. I need some help. I bought my cart already lifted. I decided to replace the single rear leaf springs with new heavy duty 3 leaf springs. The install went well but now the rear of the car bounces up and down while driving. Everything is all tight and done correct. Do I need new shocks also? what could cause the rear to bouce around? Thank you for the help.

Welcome!
I think your bouncing comes from the 8" rims and big tires. I had a set similar to that and they bounced too. I went to a 10" rim and 6 ply 23x10 tires. Fixed it right up. |

Re: Rear Bouncing after Leaf Install
Thank you. I have tested several since the hopping started. I have gone all the way from 60 PSI in all four down to 30 PSI with no change in the bounce. I am thinking my shocks are either close to maxed out or they are just old and crappy. Still not sure though.

Same rims and tires from before the leaf install and the cart did not bounce then!

How about your shocks? Are they in good shape?
I don't know what kind of tires you are running but 30-60 lbs. sounds like way to much. My old tires and new ones only run 8-10 lbs. |

Re: Rear Bouncing after Leaf Install
Prior to the leaf spring install, I was running 60 PSI in all four tires (for speed and less battery wear) with no problem. No bounce or issues then. I am just try to figure out why adding two extra leafs would cause this. My shocks are old and may need to be replaced. I was hoping for a definite answer on here first though before I went and bought new ones. I am new to this forum, maybe some one can direct me to a sponsor that I can buy from?

Re: Rear Bouncing after Leaf Install
Your old single leaf springs were probably soaking up the bounce so you didn't notice it. Now you have brand new, stiff 3 leaf springs and there isn't much give there without a lot of weight. Plus, smaller rims and big tires have a lot more sidewall causing more bounce.
I'm running 6 lbs in my tires. |
