Default Battery age-no identifier on too

Was wondering if there is another way to tell age of batteries. I do not have the dot matrix numbers on the tops of any batteries. Is there another way to tell the age of them

What brand & type of batteries. Different makes are identified differently.

are you looking at the top of the battery case or the top of the NEG post?
usually date is pressed into the NEG post, 2 chars, month and year,
A1 is Jan 2011, J3, is Oct 2013

My old Exides had a sticker on the side. May have to look at all four sides of your pack to see if any of them have stickers on one of the four sides.

Like yurtle said, pull a battery and look for a small, dime sized sticker with letter and number. That's the date code. Not every manufacture engraves the code on the neg terminal. Wish they would though.

Not to hijack the thread but I saw some "new batteries" that had F3 on the post but also a D4 sticker on them?

Would these be 2013 or 2014 batteries?

Thanks

F3 engraved on the neg terminal is indeed a June 2013 battery. The sticker was probably added to make them appear newer.

I don't know what the process is from fabrication to end user, but is it possible the stamp is when the battery was assembled, but not when it was filled with electrolyte? Possible supply overwhelmed demand? Where is the electrolyte added? At the factory, warehouse, or dealer?

Dealers don't add the acid. They come from manufacture either engraved or sticker and filled.
