I'm buying new wheelse... 10's or 12's and why?
Hello,
I have a stock Club Car DS with a back seat. I am buying new wheels/tires and I THINK I can go with certain 12" models - but I'm wondering if I should. I primarily drive on the road/gravel trail to our beach, but I often carry 4 people (sometime plus a couple kids). I have the upgraded suspension in the back and a flip over seat/utility bed. Any feedback? The other thing I was considering was buying the Medusa wheels and getting 10" wheels for the front but 12" wheels for the back - plenty of clearance back there with the upgraded suspension. Any tips for a total newbie? Thanks |

10 and 12 is the size of your wheels (rims). The overall tire diameter is what is crucial. I do not recommend exceeding 19.5-20" in the rear or 18" in the front unless you want to install a lift kit.

In off roading you have a larger selection and the tires cost less in 12". So i would compare prices of the tire you want in 10" and 12" and that may make the decision for you. Also if you eve upgade brakes i think that requires the larger rim.

Thanks for the response. I'm not really off road, but rather driving a couple trails and streets. Often heavy loads though hauling people. What's the downside of 12" wheels on a non lifted. Bumpy? Poor asthetics? I can't make an informed decision

Re: I'm buying new wheelse... 10's or 12's and why?
As stated, the diameter of the wheel doesn't really have anything to do with clearance or weight/load. A 22 or 23 inch tire is still 22 or 23 inches tall whether it is mounted on a 10" wheel or a 12" wheel. For the most part, it's a personal choice of which look you like better. Do you like more tire sidewall or more wheel? If you were using it a lot off road, you might find that having more sidewall on a 10" wheel would serve you better, but if you are just hauling people on streets and paths, either will do. Both of my carts have 12" wheels with 23" tires and neither has HD springs in the back, but both are setup to carry 4 people and they both do so just fine.

I don't have a lift in, so I think I'm limited regardless. Would I require wheel spacers if I had 12 inch in front?

Lifted or not, you are limited by the diameter of your tires, not the wheels. What year and model cart do you have? Maybe someone can tell you how big you can go on the tire size with no lift.

10 inch wheels with 205-50 tires are the same size as stock tire and wheel. I have 10 inch wheels with 205-65 tires I have HD rear springs on rear and a home made 1/2 inch lift block on the front. My tires are 20.5 inch.
Hope this gives you some ideals. |

I have the 10" medusa rims with 205/50 tires on the 03 DS in my avatar, stock suspension except that I made rear shackles 1" longer.
