Default Honda GX610 Engine Help

I am installing a Honda GX610 Model QZF GCAC-1002912 in my 1998 Ezgo Shuttle. I only have the these wires installed: ground from battery to frame and frame to engine. Positive to solenoid and solenoid to starter and have been starting it by jumping the solenoid. I have carburetor model 16100-ZJ0-892 which has a fuel cut off solenoid which needs a positive source for supplying fuel.
Here is what I have going on. When I start the engine it fires right up but only runs with the fuel supplied in the carb. if I connect the fuel cut off to the battery positive the engine will shut off instantly like I shut off a key switch and as soon as I take it off the battery it will stay running. when the engine is off I connect the fuel cutoff to the battery positive and I hear it click and see the fuel going into the carb but it will not start unless i don't have the cutoff hooked to the battery. I have replaced the cutoff switch with a new one but still have the same problem. Can anyone give me an idea what the hell might be causing this?

I suspect your issue may lie in the fact that you don't have a "correct" ignition/starter switch connected and that you "jump" the engine to get it to run. These engines stop by crossing the positive circuit to the negative, effectively grounding the "spark". By not having a switch that separates the circuit feeding the ignition and the fuel solenoid, when you do connect the solenoid to positive, you might be "jumping" the ignition circuit to ground, causing motor to stop or not start. This would be an electrical issue and really not a fuel issue.
Just a possibility......

I agree defiantly electrical. just for kicks I unplugged the shutoff diode from the coils and still for some reason it kills the engine when I hook it to a 12 volt source on the cart. it doesn't matter if its to the battery or to a fused part of the system.
