E.R.I.C. Charger on older carts
My local course has E.R.I.C. chargers for all of their carts. My club car (2007) recently died while there and I used one of their chargers. Will the E.R.I.C. chargers have any affect on my batteries? I have been fighting an on-going issue with the 3 year old batteries dieing after 15 holes. I am new to carts, but eager to learn.

Re: E.R.I.C. Charger on older carts
It did charge the batteries for me to drive it home. CTD - Why should i look at a new charger? My local dealer seems to think the batteries are just shot and wants to replace them. I read a lot of info about replaceing the 4 x 12v with 6x 8v. Is that still a thing?

It is absolutely still a thing.
If you want a bit more run time, go with the 6/8 conversion. I did it to my Precedent and it's been the best mod I have done to date. Not particularly difficult either. Check out the 4/12 to 6/8 conversion sticky. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-part-1-a.html |

Re: E.R.I.C. Charger on older carts
If your batteries are only 3 years old, I don't know that I would give up on them just yet.
Have they had good care? Water level always above the plates? Charged after every round of Golf? Please read the Sticky, I pasted the link below, about batteries before giving up on them. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...batteries.html Do some testing and post up the results you may only need to replace the charger as CTD suggested. Good luck, Aflyer |

Sounds like that you have a charger that is designed for your cart but you had to borrow a charger to get you through your round of golf. If you have maintained the batteries and they are just 3 yrs old? I'd do a few checks before deciding to front the funds for a new battery pack. Note: I'm not one of the experts here and these are just my thoughts. Once you are able to hook back up to your charger, after a 12 hr rest period after full charge, I'd check the pack voltage with a digital multimeter. Then, I'd check each individual battery and record those readings. looks like you are new here with a couple posts so I would read the sticky: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...batteries.html From there, educate yourself on batteries. You should be able to decide if your battery pack needs to be changed or maybe possibly you have another problem. |

Re: E.R.I.C. Charger on older carts
I really appreciate the information. I will definitely read the battery sticky and try to educate myself a bit more. The batteries have been well maintained since I got the cart 2 years ago. I installed a 12v reducer and radio. I hooked the 12v reducer to start and end of the battery pack, and the dealer seems to think i may have caused a battery issue since i didn't run through the computer and it was causing it to not charge enough. I have a digital meter and it shows charged (if i am not using it, its inside my garage hooked to the charger) and runs great initially, but the run time is crap. I can drive to the course (1 mi) and play about 13 holes before its limping along.

Re: E.R.I.C. Charger on older carts
One other question before the experts swarm the tread, What batteries are you using? BTW, I ran the 4-12V 5 yr old Trojan batteries in 2007 old cart for more than 5 yrs and they are still going pretty strong for the guy that purchased it from me. He could possibly get another yr out of them if he maintains them.
What batteries do you have? |
