Re: '98 ezgo Diagnostics Question
The doodad is a safety switch so you don't drive the car while plugged in. So I have traced to the Diode on the solenoid. when I remove the diode the solenoid clicks no matter what position the F/R switch is in, even neutral. Replace it and the power wire shorts.
Sorry I saw your post after I wrote this |

Re: '98 ezgo Diagnostics Question
That doodad is a glass magnetic switch, potted in a plastic sleeve. It can break and leave you stranded. Mine broke, and like an idiot, I replaced it. After the second one broke, I just cut it off and landed the wire on the terminal inside the charger receptacle.
If you're worried about safety, just run the charger plug through the steering wheel. |

Re: '98 ezgo Diagnostics Question
I replaced the diode that took care of the short. Bypassed $78. reed switch for now. Now solenoid clicks when key is turned on, with F/R switch in any position, nothing happens when pedal is pushed.

Re: '98 ezgo Diagnostics Question
I may be reading you wrong but...
Solenoid should only click with keyswitch on, FNR in F or R, but not in neutral, and when pedal is pressed. Something's wrong if it clicks when in Neutral and without depressing the pedal. |

Re: '98 ezgo Diagnostics Question
I found the ms3 was bad (closed) that solve solenoid clicking when key is turned on. It now clicks when pedal is pressed, ms2 never opens with the cam that actuates it, but works if it is moved another 1/16 in. so that is the next problem as I see no adjustment and it worked before. When in forward position and the pedal is depressed the solenoid clicks and the voltage is the same on bat. side and controler side (35.45) voltage before solenoid clicks on controller side was 7.64. nothing happens with pedal being depressed except for solenoid clicking. Voltage at B+ M- and A2 is 7.64 until pedal is pushed and they all go to battery voltage. + or - 2or3 volts.
