1995 ez go motor shakes
Hi, I just picked up a 1995 medalist and it is 36v. I has 6 exide 2200 batteries. I charged the batteries for 11hrs and when I tried to drive it the cart only moves about an inch and the motor shake really bad. After charging the batteries for 11hrs 1 battery reads 4v DC and the other 5 batteries read at 6v.

Sounds like something internally is out of balance or maybe spun a bearing. You are gonna need a motor!!

If one of your batteries is showing only 4v and the rest at 6v. that bad battery will cause the problems you are having. Plus 6v after 12 hr. do not sound good. I would check your pack before messing with the motor.

Check the total pack voltage and the voltage you are getting at the motor. When you say it only moves an inch and shakes do you mean it moves really slowly and the motor is causing a vibration and there is an on-off sound, or is the entire cart shaking visibly?

Re: 1995 ez go motor shakes
Thanks for the input guys. How do I check the total voltage at the motor and what should the voltage on each battery be?

Quote:
2. Fully charged, about 6.37V (New batteries a bit higher, old batteries a bit lower.) 3. A fully charged 36V battery pack should read about 38.2V, but we already know one (or more) of your batteries is bad, (Only measures 4V after an 11 hr charge) so the 33.4V reading is just further conformation of that fact. Attached is a battery voltage chart. Look in the 6V column for individual batteries and the 36V column for the battery pack. Doing a little math, if we subtract the known bad battery (4V) from the 33.4V total, we get 29.4V for the other five, so their average is only 5.88V, which means they are only charging to about 25% of capacity and should be replaced. When you get your new batteries: * Be sure to charge them fully before using them. * They must be broken-in properly to get maximum storage capacity. (ScottyB has the procedure posted on his website) * The fuller you keep them charged, the longer they last. * Never, ever, discharge them below 50%. * Clean terminals and check water every month. (And toss $10 in a jar for your next set of batteries ) * Only add water when fully charged. (Distilled water only) |
