SWMBO wants a newer cart now. What to buy?
Mrs. Gresham wants a newer cart NOW so if you were to be in the market what would be on the top of your list? TXT, PDS, DCS, MOUSE? I dont know the difference. 8 volt batteries, 12 volt batteries? Please help.

Of course, the decision would be influenced by your usage, load and terrain.

Campgrounds, neighborHOOD ( want a little speed), moderate hill for about 150 feet. No more than 4" lift and MAYBE some 20" tires.

I like the Ezgo PDS for that application. I know you are going to want a rear seat and tire change so I recommend a controller, solenoid, & cable upgrade right away. Easy 24mph.
There are other carts that will work. I'm just giving my preference |

That's what I'm looking for. A personal preference from someone that knows carts because I dont know Jack Schidt yet. I'll keep learning from here though.
Any years to stay away from? |

Re: SWMBO wants a newer cart now. What to buy?
To me Budget is critical in making a decision like that.....
If the $$ is available, I would get a RXV 2009 or newer (preferably 2010 or newer) I agree with Scotty regarding the PDS as the best second option though. Get a new SPM Alltrax controller (400 amp is fine since they have a boost mode that puts them at almost 500 amps), 2 gauge wires (overkill is not a bad thing here), a HD 400 AMP solenoid (get the 48 Volt variety so that you can seemlessly make the change to 48 volts at a later date if you want to), some nice 20" tires, and a 3" Jakes lift kit. You might also think about a brake upgrade (if nothing else, get the Ausco kit for the rear). edit: Get a 2002-2005 PDS It was the best years for those carts. |

Re: SWMBO wants a newer cart now. What to buy?
So a 2002 and up PDS cart( i assume these are 36 volt since Rabbit says you can upgrade to 4 is looking like a good base cart to start with. SWMBO wants the back seat also and the Old Man (me) is 280lbs (I'm also 6'-5") and the kids are somewhere north of that. Is it safe to assume that HD springs are the first mod on the list?

Pretty safe bet that you will want the HD springs at the same time you do the rear seat.
Personally I would start with the electronics, then go to the seating, then the lift and tires. |

Re: SWMBO wants a newer cart now. What to buy?
I started out with a '97 Ezgo TXT DCS cart. It already had a rear seat kit on it. I didn't know anything about it them at the time (probably still don't, but hey I'm trying) so I came here. Since then I have added a 4" lift kit, and 22" AT tires, and a Plum Quick Bandit upgrade for the motor, while waiting on the upgrade I installed a set of HD 3 leaf springs. After that the stock controller went south, so I upgraded to the Alltrax DCX400, and HD Solenoid (Purchased from Scottyb). Recently I added new seat covers, carbon fiber (looking) dash cover, and a bunch of lights.
Anyway I love my cart now, as does the family. It hauls butt; I have recently been getting 26mph consistantly and have reached 29mph (slight downhill) once. I guess what I'm saying is that as long as it's an Ezgo () and you do your research, you'll have a great ride that is fun to add on to, and will treat you right. |
