Re: Intermediate steering shaft broken??
Don't I remember reading somewhere that you changed out the front shocks on the cart? I suspect they are the reason that the steering linkage came apart. If the replacement shocks have more travel (open) than the original, that is what allowed the steering linkage to come apart.
edit, Colt, when installed, the zip ties get removed. |

Re: Intermediate steering shaft broken??
The new shocks have 1/2" more travel than the stock shocks - I can see where that might be just enough. However, I think that coupled with some needing to be replaced front leafs...
Got it back to the house tonight and rode it all over with no problems. |

Re: Intermediate steering shaft broken??
Too hot, too tired and too much darn work to do to give it another go tonight. Doubt the problem is fixed - the shaft went back together with no issues at all - but I'm sure with the wheels turned the right way, the right bump, the right drop, and if I hold my tongue like 'mis...
Then, yeah it might slide out again. Trying to come up with options, but am too tired and beat down to do much about it right now. Need sleep. |

Re: Intermediate steering shaft broken??
1/2" more travel in the shocks would be enough to pull the splines apart on the shaft.....
you could always insert spacers under the steering box to compensate for the added travel. While you are doing that, upgrade to grade 8 bolts on there to prevent them from sheering. |

Re: Intermediate steering shaft broken??
Here are the options I am thinking about. For the time being, it's staying as it is. Found out last night my office changed our insurance policy and the new policy means about $5-6K out of my pocket for the new prosthetic I started on last week. That was a nice letter to come home to.
Limiting strap - really don't want to go this route but may have to if this keeps happening. Pulling the intermediate shaft, bringing it to a machine shop and telling them I need it 3/4" longer. Long Travel front end. |
