New battery "break in" procedures
Hey Guys,
I just installed new Trojan T-1275s. I'm following the break in procedures that I found on this site. I'm running them down to 50% and then charging them without interruption, until the charger shuts off. I will do this for the 1st 10-12 cycles, and then put the batts on the charger every night (after use). Here's the issue: I cannot find anything on Trojan's website instructing me to do this. They say to run batts down 20-50% and then put on charger. They also say that you can run them down to 80%, but not recommended. There are no specifics on any break in required. You would think if it was that important, they would mention it. So, I just emailed Trojan. When I get a response, I will post it here! Steve |

Re: New battery "break in" procedures
I have talked with Trojan techs about this point also. They are not as big on a break-in procedure as proper usage. They told me there is no break-in method they recommend. But yet every tech has seen the batteries come up in power after an the first 10-20 cycles.... Trojan says their battery increases in strength for the first 150 cycles.
We all know that the batteries have a finite useful life. The Trojan usage chart does show that number to be about 700 80% discharge cycles or 5500 10% discharge cycles. Basically you can draw the batteries down to 20% capacity if you like, mathematically that is worth 7.8 of the shallow discharges. The thing I pointed out earlier about the deep discharge was that if it takes any time significant time ( more than a day ) for you to draw the pack down you are essentially letting the pack sit in a state of discharge (over night) and we all know that allows for sulfation of the plates, a partially irreversible condition. The short version is use them, however you need, and recharge when you are done. |

Re: New battery "break in" procedures
Thanks for the detailed reply scotty I'll continue with the break in method the techs in the field use.
Also: I'll be calling you for wires (after my wallet heals from the batteries), can you make 2 gage wires in neon green, blue or orange? (I build computers, and neon wires are the rage. I think the cart would look neat with some bright cables ) Steve |

Re: New battery "break in" procedures
You could get some inexpensive neon colored heat shrink and sleeve the entire length of the cables you want colored
