Default D and d high speed motor with stock controller

Hey, guys. Have had my cart for about 2 years now, and have finally decided to upgrade. I went the high speed motor route to gain some speed without adding or replacing batteries. here's what I have:

94 medalist
Stock fnr
Stock solenoid
Stock curtis 1206 controller with plug brake
Stock 2.5 hp 3300 rpm series motor
2 gauge welding cables
2 year old deka batteries (appear to be in decent shape)

My new d and d 8:1 4850 rpm motor is coming tomorrow, and I'm starting to have some concerns about how long the controller will last. From what I've read, it's not if, but when it will go up in smoke. Guy at d and d said if I mostly held pedal wide open, it would help. My wife likes to creep around off the cart path in the grass, I stay on the pavement wot. I plan on heavy duty solenoid and fnr very soon, but would like to hold off on controller for a few months if I can. Terrain very flat with next to no hills. Motor is fan cooled. Sorry for long post, just want to give as much info as possible. Opinions, please, and thanks for all the great info I've gotten off the forum.

Steve

Motor came today. It is a beauty. I really want to change it out, but would like to hear some thoughts on how the controller will do. Anyone?

Upgraded motor = increased amperage consumption.
Really you should upgrade everything else first and then get a motor.

Personally I would put the motor on the shelf and start getting the cart ready for it.
