Re: Brake cleaning and adjustment
You did take the kotter pin out right ?? Try some PB Blaster or Kroil.. spray it on, lock the brakes and try to remove it with an impact if you have one. If not a breaker bar and a socket should. If the hub spins, put a tire back on and sit it on the ground. Worse case, cut slits in the nut and break it off the axle.
Did you per chance try to remove the hub before you took the nut off ? If so, you probably damaged the nut and if you try to get it off normally it is going to tear up the axle shaft. If this is the case, either get a nut buster or grind it to the point you can break it off. Axles are pricy.. |

Nope, cotter pin removed first and have not tried to remove drum. Good idea to cut the nut - just concerned about damaging threads. Going to try to torch and buddy has a breaker bar. Hopefully, the axle doesn't snap! I'll report back.

Re: Brake cleaning and adjustment
If you don't have half inch socket tools, rent some or borrow some. Put the tire on, bolted but ultra secure isn't necessary. Set the cart back down on all fours. With the right size socket, 7/8 if memory serves, and an 18 inch breaker bar, give it a try. It that doesn't work, put a length of pipe over the breaker bar and try again. This is a definite case of leaverage being your friend. Setting the park brake will help too. Just remember to release it before you try to remove the drum.

Re: Brake cleaning and adjustment
Finally had time to work on the cart again. Friend came over with breaker bar and finally got them off after putting tires on ground. My buddy also brought over a can of Brakleen, sprayed the brakes and drums, and now they work great! Didn't even have to adjust them! Thanks for all of the advice!
