Default DS IQ melted white wire at motor

My neighbor has a DS IQ and bandit motor.
He put it in reverse, tried to accelerate and heard an electrical crackling sound from the motor area. We discovered the white wire on the motor had over heated and burned the sheathing. Any Ideas why?

Thanks

TC

Just the end at the motor.
The photo he took isn't worth posting.

Sounds like a bad connector or connection at motor. Best to replace wire. Be sure to disconnect power at last neg terminal from battery pack before replacing, and make sure not to let terminal lug turn inside motor (use 2 wrenches).
