2001 DS starter stalling engine
I'm having trouble with the starters on a 2001 Club Car DS. The armatures are getting so hot that they turn blue and seize up. The last starter I put on, I noticed that the engine stalls when I hook up the yellow wire to the starter. Could this be the regulator/rectifier not working properly? I have replaced the last one with an after market one from Buggies Unlimited. The one that is on the cart now is new and it seems to be causing the starter to stall the engine, it is also from Buggies Unlimited. I understand that to check to see if the generator is charging, I could ground the DF terminal while the engine is running. Is the aftermarket reg/rect "over grounding" the generator and burning it up? Is this common for after market reg/rect?

Re: 2001 DS starter stalling engine
Need to know what battery voltage is while the motor is running.
Also get rid of all the aftermarket crap |

You bet, as soon as I get another reg/rect I'll let you know the voltage. Thanks

Re: 2001 DS starter stalling engine
It seems to have been aftermarket regulator/rectifiers causing the generator to over charge . The first caused the starter to burn up within a couple of weeks. Since no one could tell me why the starter/generator turned blue, I put a new starter on with out replacing regulator/rectifier and nearly burned it up before I realized what was happening. When I hooked the new starter up, everytime I touched the yellow wire to the DF terminal the starter would start stalling the engine. Come to find out both new aftermarket regulator/rectifiers were causing the generator to over charge and run long enough, it would burn up the generator. Also installed a voltage guage to keep an eye on battery voltage.

Re: 2001 DS starter stalling engine
When they get to charging at 19 plus volts, its kills power

Re: 2001 DS starter stalling engine
Without a way to check voltage on the carts, is it common for regulators to cause the generators to burn up?
