Default 84 ezgo running rich

I have an 84 ezgo trying to get it running better. Has good spark and 120psi compression. robin 250cc.

40:1 mixed fuel. It ran poorly with stock carb, bought a new ebay carb and runs about the same. Occasionally would rev out but otherwise just puts above idle.

Runs just fast enough to engage clutch and drives at about walking speed. only runs at wot any less throttle and it snuffs out.
any choke or intake restriction and it snuffs out.
Spark plug looks good.

betting its running way too fuel rich (plenty smoke) but how to lean it out? the only needle appears to be a low speed jet.

Did you just rebuild it? If not, you should be running 128:1 on the oil. One ounce of oil per gallon of gas.

Start here, and then we will move on to a muffler barbecue. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...fuel-pump.html

even though the main jet in the original and replacement carb were the same, dropping it made a difference.

went all the way from 82 to 60 and it runs much better. going to go back up to 65. not a drag racer but drives closer to the way it should.

figured jetting fixed it, but not so. noticed it would surge. Replaced fuel pump and put stock jetting back in. runs like it should on the stand, needs test drive but seems 100% after fuel pump.
