Re: How can I test my txt's charging system?
Make sure the charging system is backing off when the battery is charged all the way up, about 12.9v.....

Re: How can I test my txt's charging system?
Will do, I will probably put the new battery in it tonight and run it around for a while and then throw it on a slow charge for an hour or so tonight to get it fully charged. Then I will check the charging system in the morning.

Re: How can I test my txt's charging system?
I am having the same issues. i have a 99 txt. i connected a volt meter to the + side of the battery and the - side to the green wire. before starting it reads 12.2v, when i start the cart and rev to mid to full throttle, it drops to 0 - 2vdc. now i reversed the voltmeter and put - on the battery and + on the green wire. when i started it, it jumped to 12.1 volts. can it be bad brushes or would it be likely to be the coils within the start/gen? with a new battery, it does crank over very fast and strong, its just not charging.

Re: How can I test my txt's charging system?
You shouldn't have to charge that battery. See what your volts are at battery and than crank engine. See what generator is putting out. If over 15V than you need a NEW VR. Don run if over 15V or you will kill that battery.

Re: How can I test my txt's charging system?
the battery is brand new. the owner changed it out thinking the battery was bad, it has 13.6 volts. with nothing disconnected, as far as the starter/gen and vr, 13.6, while running, it drops down to 12.1 and keeps dropping slowly. the owner can drive it for a while before it dies out. i know its not charging, i just need to know how to test the starter/gen for proper voltage output and if it could be as simple as changing brushes or if im going to have to replace the coils inside the starter/gen. like i had said in my previous post, i hooked my battery tester to the green wire, once with + on the wire and - to ground and once with - to the green wire and + to the pos side of the battery and it wasnt showing anything over 12.1v. one post described how to do it, but it wasnt clear exactly where to ground what to what or where a meter should be.
