01 DS Won't Go
A few weeks ago, I helped my neighbor replace the generator in his 01 DS gasser. We tested everything with a volt meter and it seemed to be working great. Now things are not so great. The generator will run when the pedal is pushed but the engine doesn't kick in and go. When he asked me to help figure out the problem, I started asking questions. Turns out that the 15 amp fuse kept blowing. So, Einstein installs a 20 amp fuse instead. Eventually the 20 amp blows so he puts in a 25 amp fuse. Well the new fuse didn't blow but now the cart won't go.
So, what has he done by putting in the bigger fuse? What can we check and/or assume may have been fried because of the bigger fuse? And what could we have done or still should do to troubleshoot the fuse blowing to begin with? I had no idea he was having issues until it was too late. |

Re: 01 DS Won't Go
Here's the reason he replaced the S/G Chris!
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...generator.html 03... An Einstein he was... Sadly, I had one experience with blowing fuses, but not NEAR to that extent! I replaced my S/G belt, got it good and tight, and found that the S/G would "start to turn" the engine over, but then, the engine would stop at the compression stage, and neither the S/G or the engine would turn past that point, I continued to pump the GO pedal to try to get it past that point and..."POP" goes the fuse! after 2 more 10 amp fuses, I decided to remove the S/G belt, and test it without it on, Of coarse it worked just fine, I reinstalled the belt, but, I wasn't able to get it as tight as before, and the S/G turned the engine over like there was never a problem. What I found was, that my belt was TOO tight causing extra undo strain on the S/G, making the fuse do it's job. As for troubleshooting what NOW may be wrong with your neighbors cart, I'd start by checking the battery and it's connections, voltages at the solenoid, and S/G... and the continuity of the key switch, and micro's. Beyond that... I'm at a loss! I hope it turns out to be something easy! (and cheap!) |

Re: 01 DS Won't Go
one thing with that 25 amp fuse take a good look see at all your 12 gage or smaller wires see if you can find where one melted cause theres a good chance it melted a wire somewhere it might even be wires coming out of fuse block...........it didn,t catch fire so thats good but i,ll bet you take a good look and your gonna find a melted wire somewhere.............keyswitch, soleniod, S/G fuse block................somewhere in there..................

Wow 25 amp fuse, if it blows the 10 that goes there you have an issue. Bigger fuses mean more things can get burned up! Sounds like you may have a short somewhere.

Chris, what happens is - push the gas pedal, generator turns, belt turns, motor never engages. He says he's getting a spark at the plug, though. I've been gone for a week so I don't know what the current status is. I'll get some wiring diagrams and get him to check things out. Thanks |

Re: 01 DS Won't Go
it should be a 10 amp fuse in there unless C.C. upped the ampreage.................03 if motor isn,t engaging its not possible hes getting spark the motor turning over is what creates spark unless he means its turning over but not starting ................if thats the case and almost has to be if it has spark than its a fuel issue..............you need compression, spark and fuel.......but you know that............you need to see it 1st hand..........................

Re: 01 DS Won't Go
Thanks Shadow. If he started with a 15a, then either he had issues prior to swapping out the generator or the dealer he bought it from did it. It sat needing a generator for probably nearly a year before he actually put one in. I didn't check it myself but he said it's getting a spark. So, maybe it is a fuel issue. I'll get back with him and see where he is with it - and also suggest he go back to a smaller amp fuse. :)
