Default Generator not charging well

Hello Ladies and Gents

I have a slight problem with my 2000 Club Car.

The battery keeps going dead on me.I charge it up and a few days later it dies.

I did some reading here and run some of the test that was recommended.
I know I need a new battery will be getting one today or tomorrow.

The other problem is the generator will only put out 11.5 volts with or without the battery connected.

Tested the generator at the back plate and thats all I can get out of it is 11.5 volts.

Pulled generator off, brushes are good Armature has been cleaned with an eraser. I had to do this thru the dust holes cause I could'nt get the bck cover off after removing the 2 long bolts and the brushes. is there something else in there that would hold the back plate on? Are there diodes inside that may be going bad?

Back when I was young ,we would rebuid automotive generators and starters, but then there were no diodes and stuff to fuse with.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to BGW Craneman,

Sounds like the voltage regulator has headed south on ya.
First take a volt reading of your battery, then start it in neutral or remove drive belt and check volts with @ 2/3 throttle.
If everything is working the volts should increase while running.
To test V/R, remove the green wire from the small post marked "DF" on the generator. then start it up again and ground the green wire, the voltage reading at battery should shoot up to 15 or 16.
If it does, replace the V/R, if it does not, have the Starter/generator repaired.

Thanks for the welcome.

I will try the VR test in the morning.

Would I be able to get a new VR at the local Parts store? If not I will have to order one from from somewhere.

I live out in the sticks so there are no dealers around.

Thanks for the advice

If you have a good parts guy (not the young ones that can't think without a computer)at your local parts store you can get an automotive type V/R.
It will be a basic one with three connections, ground tab, "DF" tab and batt tab.
If you have no luck with them your site sponsors can hook you up.

Edit: Just noticed you have a 2000, it might be a square solid state unit inside the black solenoid box and then would be cheaper than the older style.
