Default is a 1997 DS a good build platform?

Hi. I have access to a 1997 completely stock DS for $1800. I'm worried about aftermarket and build parts to put together a lifted and cool cart along with its age. Is this a platform worth considering? To old? Is the frame steel or aluminum?
HELP!

All club cars are aluminum frame and make a great platform. The cart is not too old to consider. The price is dependent on condition, but even if it’s in great shape, price is higher than I’d pay for a stock 20 year old cart.

A stock gas 1997 DS gas in great shape is a steal around here for that price.

The only problem you will have is stopping yourself from buying things for it. No one here can help with that. You'll see. Good luck!

I started with a stock 95 DS. Now I have a lifted machine with a new body, LED lights, rear seat, new wheel/tires, etc. It's addictive. Starting to consider new power now. That FE290 just isn't cutting anymore.

OP doesn’t say where he’s from so maybe that’s a good price there too. IDK. That’s not a steal around here. Not saying it’s terrible but can find newer ones for the same money.
