Just a regular car stereo and speakers from walmart. It has been left out in the rain several times at motorcycle rallies, etc and it all still works fine.

Go for it, I was a bit apprehensive to cut into a new cart but I got over that pretty quick! I call the color as "Harley Orange"...

Nice install. Did u use the flimsy plastic in the rear, or did use somthing much thicker? We also install the speakers underneath the cup holders for future reference, but R limited to 5 1/4.They sound really good bouncing of the floor.

I realize this is from last year but are there any issues with engine heat hurting the speakers? Would insulating them help, or is it not necessary?

I don't believe heat has a big part to play, the engine is far enough away that it shouldn't really be affected. I have things wired near the engine, no problems.

Second question...did you have to remove the cowl?

Hey there...based off of this thread, I installed a stereo as you can see in the pics....didn't even have to remove the cowel. I actually "hid" some speakers in the back. Scariest part was cutting holes in the body...but all went well...you just have to measure really good...and go for it. This is a non-CD bluetooth version...it cranks!
