Default muffler replacement

I have a 1983 Ezgo, finally was able to get it running by replacing the fuel system: filters, lines, pump and carb. Now that it runs we're finding it too dang loud, thinking about a muffler replacement, but reading all about the 83 being an odd ball year. Has anyone effectively swapped other years, different muffler, or just straight fabbed something different?

The easiest thing to do might be rebuilding your old muffler.

Another option is to buy a new one for $147, and then fabricate a new pipe to fit it. I get the feeling that the 83 pipe started out the same as the others, and was extended to reach the new location under the seat. It shouldn't be too hard to cut it back, and weld your flange back on. All of the other years have the muffler standing vertical in front of the secondary clutch.

You will notice that all of these mufflers have very small outlets. Two strokes need a certain amount of back pressure to run correctly.

Curious to see what you came up with. The muffler/exhaust on our '83 finally let go this summer and looking to rebuild/replace.
