Tomberlin Vanish charging question
I have a 2010 Tomberlin Vanish that I have a snow plow on and yesterday I got to use it... a whole lot... We got over 8 inches of snow. So I plugged it in to the 110V and after half an hour or so I hear the batteries bubbling and can smell the battery acid. This morning I don't hear that or smell it so I assume the batteries are fully charged. I don't have a watering system on the Vanish so do that by hand.
Is this normal for charging electric vehicles? I did replace 2 of the batteries last summer. I don't seem to smell it or hear it as bad when I ride in the warm weather. thx! |

Re: Tomberlin Vanish charging question
When batteries are deeply discharged, it would be normal to hear the hydrogen gassing that you hear, and probably smell. It most often occurs especially when battery packs have mismatched batteries. For example....3 year old pack, two batteries went bad so installed 2 new ones. In working to get the 3 year old ones to full capacity, the 2 new ones might be getting worked more than they need, and would gas more.
In your case, plowing takes a LOT of power with those (we used on at the corporate office) each winter too. That said, just make sure to let the charger finish its cycle, and display the solid green LED on the charger. Also be aware that when so deeply discharged, the charger may time itself out, and you would see a blinking red led (3 flashes), which just requires you to unplug it, wait 20 seconds, then plug back in. |
