Unhappy Broken Wheel Stud Replacement

I have a 2007 CC Precedent and when changing the wheels this weekend one of the wheels studs was frozen up on the nut. I had to cut the nut off which was pretty easy. I pulled off the drum and was able to get the striped stud out with a hammer. It appears that I have to take the axle out to install the new stud on the flange. I can't seem to find and instructions on how to do this. Anyone have an idea as I don't want to go deeper than I have to. I can't find anything on YouTube or any manual on line. HELP!

Cool Re: Broken Wheel Stud Replacement

Thanks for the fast response Crash Test. I am assuming that it is the part on the diagram that is labeled #17? If so can it be reached with out taking the axle housing off the diff? I think I read somewhere that the C clip can be reached from the back of the brake assembly.

Thanks again!

You shouldn't need to remove the axle. Should be enough room to get the new stud in if you pop one of the brake shoes off.

To get the splines pulled into place, spray some oil on the threads of the stud, put 2-3 washers on the stud, flip the lug nut backwards and tighten it down until the stud pulls tight.

Talking Re: Broken Wheel Stud Replacement

Hey Fairtax4me,

Your idea was spot on had the wheel off, stud installed and wheel back on in less than 15 minutes. I did not even have to take the brake shoes of. Thanks for the great tip!
