Default 1988 expo 244 rebuild help

I’m sure this has been beaten to death, but I need some help and or direction.

I have an 8& Ezgo 244cc robin. I just rebuild it. I had the head bored and put a .25 larger piston in it. I made sure the hole in the piston went towards the carb. The last person that rebuilt it did not.

It has a new fuel pump, new carb new plug and oil injection bypass has been done.

My problem:
It Will start. Goes strong then shuts off. Goes, sputters, shuts off. Floods then won’t start.

What am I missing?

Sounds like your new carb is junk.

I’m ordering a new one now. That’s what I’m starting to think. It’s a red hawk carb. I thought they were good.

The best thing to do is clean the original.

Unfortunately the original never came with the cart. I’m looking for a new original now, but those are hard to come by.

Update. Got the new carb. Runs better, but backfires a lot and still sputters bad. Eventually it runs but I feel it should be better.
