Default HEI Conversion Help

I did the HEI conversion on my 1990 gas marathon golf cart.

It turns over but doesn't start. There is a black wire from the negative terminal on the voltage regulator to the ground on the HEI module, then goes to the I terminal on the solenoid.

as soon as i power up the cart it melts.

I have went thru the wiring diagram 100 times over and I can't figure out what i am doing wrong.

if i don't even have that wire, it turns over but won't start.

ANY help would be appreciated.

If the wire melts, you are creating a dead short. That means you are connecting to the hot side of the solenoid instead of the ground.

Do you have five wires connected to your hei module?

Ok, let's verify some connections using this diagram. https://buggiesgonewild.com/attachme...7&d=1323224205

On the HEI module.
W, and G go to the pulsar.
C goes to ignition coil negative.
B goes to positive side of solenoid small terminal.

The 5th wire comes from the mounting hole of the module to any ground. It doesn't have to go to the solenoid.

The module needs to be mounted flush to bare metal with dielectric grease. You can grind the nubs off the back, or drill dimples in your mounting plate.

Verify all of that first. I'm hoping the module isn't internally shorted.
