How can I get more speed with easy upgrades
I just purchased a 97 TXT with the series style motor, stock motor and controller with 3 year old batteries. I am wondering if there is a quick way to get more speed out of this thing. I know I can buy motors and controllers, I am saving $ for that. I am looking for wiring changes or things like that. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: How can I get more speed with easy upgrades
The quick answer is, "no"!. No there are no cheap upgrades to increase speed with your cart.
Now, things you can do that might help: 1 Check the batteries you have. Charge the pack, let the cart set for at least 24 hours, then check the pack voltage. Fully charged, the pack should read 38.16/38.20. If, after charging and allowing to rest, you do not have the proper voltage, you have a battery/batteries that are or are going bad. But, you should not replace just one battery. You can, but the effect will not last long as that battery will hasten the depreciation of the others. 2. You can put upgraded high voltage cables on. Stock is 6 gauge. 4 or even 2 gauge will give you better over all performance. BUT, it still won't perform any better than your batteries permit and there really won't be an appreciable speed increase. 3. You can inspect all connections for cleanliness and secure contact. Clean each wire and cable along with the contact, apply a bit of dielectric grease and reconnect. Make sure you have disconnected the primary ground for the battery pack before you touch anything else. 4. While you have the ground disconnected, you could ensure your forward/reverse contacts are solid. Do not over tighten the adjustment bolt. 5. Make sure you have properly inflated tires. Some of the others may have a couple more suggestions for you. But, cheap and electric cart do not mix well when discussing speed. |

Well, there is the option to get bigger wheel/tyre combo. You get a higher top speed but the acceleration will suffer.

Speed is easy, MORE VOLTAGE! More voltage is not cheep. More batteries, higher voltage controller, higher voltage charger = more speed.

The Series carts were made for torque not speed. It might be better to sale that cart and get a TXT DCS or a PDS cart. They have a Sepex motor made for speed not torque. That is if you don't need torque.

Re: How can I get more speed with easy upgrades
Looks like some $ upgrades are in your future. #1 more volts, speed increases linear with more volts. #2 bigger tires, its like changing the gear ratio #3 high speed gears- lose torque for more speed. All these will require upgraded parts and/or more batteries. All costs more $, no "cheap/easy" answers for a series system.

The older DCS's and PDS's are more in line with a lot of peoples budgets. The RXV's generally run a lot more money. I believe that is why he's starting out with a 1997 series. Most people start out with an older cart, fix them up over time and move on from there. If money doesn't matter go with a RXV right out of the gate... |
