I am a RXV fan. They are our bread and butter around here.
We service a very hilly area for neighborhood carts. Some of our carts have the 2 burn off
kit because of a particular quirk of the area.
customers start from home with batts charged - then drive @3/4 mile downhill to lake.
2nd burn off comes in handy stopping from 20mph downhill with 2 adults and 3 kids and assorted stuff.

Loss of torque w/high speed gears IS noticeable, especially when applying brakes.
The application of brakes at high speeds also generates more power than batts can absorb, placing a load (heat) on the burn off resistor.

I have no doubt RXV's can pull a 900lb trailer with high speed gears- Just worried about stopping in an emergency. If you depress brake to point "parking/emergency"
brake is engaged , Will it be able to lock wheels or will disk just shatter?

Brake is hard pressed to lock wheels w/stock gears.

Wink Re: Jakes disc brake install 08 RXV

Wonderful learning curve !! I did not know on an rxv there was a point depressing the pedal that you reach a park/ emergency point ! All these years I've been just tapping the brake pedal and the cart would begin slowing I have not been riding the pedal to a complete stop except for the last 20 ft or so.
Have not made a full out emergency stop yet...so dont know if the brake rotor will shatter. Guess I'll try that on an empty road and let you know if I survive !! Thanks !!

Dont try it, it only reduces the life of the brake (might end it).

Ditto CG...

Never lock brake up while moving on RXV's.

Riding brake to complete stop is not a problem. Just don't stomp brake to floor!

Question Re: Jakes disc brake install 08 RXV

Sarge...please send me an email and I will send you pics of the disc brakes.

Anyhow....while we have this open...my best friend, on my recommendation purchased an 09 RXV. He was in a RV park near lake Tansi..on a slight downhill grade ( not a steep hill ) talking to a neighbor. Suddenly the cart started rolling...he pressed hard on the brake pedal...nothing happened....while rolling he turned the key to reverse and forward...nothing....the cart was gaining speed on the downgrade and there was nothing he could do but ride it out and almost turn over at the bottom where the road does a dogleg left.

Point. anybody ever heard of this or experienced it ?? Perhaps hightech has a knowlegable opinion....my friend traded the cart

Bad brake.(motor brake)
cheap fix -- replace brake.
guaranteed to fix.

Most likely cart had bad brake for a while, friend bought it with bad brake.
Ask friend if he had a problem where he had to to switch cart on /off several times to get it to move.

If you put disc brakes on the RXV, how does that work in conjunction with the motor brake? When brake pedal is pressed doesnte the motor begin to slow the cart? how would adding disc brakes work? Do you disengage the motor brake?

Motor brake normally has NOTHING to do with stopping cart.
"Parking/Emergency" or " Motor" brake normally holds a stopped cart still.
Actual MOTOR is the brake.

Additional physical brakes added to RXV would just add to stopping power..

Reducing regen power sent to batts and/or burn off resister
