OT Battery chargers
A bit off topic, but I figure this might be a good place for opinions on at home battery chargers with all the battery experts here.
I have an old Century 6/12 volt battery charger that seems to be done. I use it to charge my dual 6 volt batteries for my camper, my accessory battery on the EZ GO, and to keep the dual batteries up to snuff in my Powerstroke 6.0 diesel when it sits a lot. (This Ford is tough on the dual battery system). Wondering if anyone has recommendations for a 6/12 volt charger. Doesn't need to be real fast, but auto shut off when full charge is reached would be nice. |

Re: OT Battery chargers
Would anyone think to use this as a replacement for 2 little button rectifier diodes? |

Re: OT Battery chargers
No advantage over DO-5 case style.
DO-5 case diode is easier to install in most chargers.

or http://www.ebay.com/itm/EZGO-Powerwi...-/260984170660 You can get diodes and fuse or just get diodes(cheeper) from electronics supply house. |

Re: OT Battery chargers
That amazon listing looks like the HD powerdrive clubcar one with a heatsink on it (the one on a clubcar uses the charger case as a heatsink).

Re: OT Battery chargers
I'm not trying to repair my cart charger, but a small charger I use to charge up my 12 volt accessory battery. Its just a manual 6 / 12 volt charger, probably cost $35.

It can be done, but you gotta know what you're doing. ---------------- I used a DPI Xciter charger to keep my riding mower's battery alive over the winter and it did an excellent job. It is basically a 2A version of their Accusense Golf Cart battery charger line. Charges 6V as well as low capacity 12V and high capacity 12. And it float charges after the regular cycle ends, just like it's bigger brothers do. https://dpipower.com/store/6-12-12-v...0-volt-ac.html |

Re: OT Battery chargers
Was just hoping to repair my 1995 model year Century 87062 manual battery charger for a couple of bucks for my aux battery as opposed to spending $30+ on a new one. It's pretty simple, transformer, diodes, switch and a meter.

Re: OT Battery chargers
I take it that the charger has no output.
Looks like there is a circuit breaker that the diode/heatsink assembly is attached to. There might be a reset button on the bottom on charger, or it might be a self-resetting type. What is the DC voltage between white wire on the ammeter (my guess is it's negative) and the heatsink? FWIW: If the diodes ever need to be replaced, I'd drill a couple holes in the flat piece of aluminum the diode holed is pop-riveted to and install a pair of 1N1184A rectifier diodes. |
