Re: Reversing Contactor - anyone install?
Do both the Main solenoid and new contactor click in forward and reverse?

Re: Reversing Contactor - anyone install?
If it worked for a while and then didn't work I would say you have it connected correctly and there is a big chance the problem is a bad connection. If there are 2 clicks from the main solenoid and contactor when you try to go the problem may be in the high amperage cables or connections.

Re: Reversing Contactor - anyone install?
Dela, I got my contactor in on friday and got it installed. Mine didn't work right off the bat, but after a few minutes of inspection, I realized i didn't have the ground wire hooked up. Once I got that done It worked like a charm. I did notice it didn't seem to have the torque like before. I'll start another thread on that. I'll try to post pictures here of my install later. Did you try crossing the f / R wires on the switch to see if that gives rev and no forward? Or Scotty may can tell us, you may be able to externally cross the pos. wire on switch to the rev wire. Hopefully just a bad switch.

Re: Reversing Contactor - anyone install?
I'll look into that, thanks!
Very frustrating that it worked right off in forward and reverse and no zero reverse.. I thought I noticed a torque variation as well - wasn't sure if was the contactor or batteries needed a charge - maybe someone will chime in Looks like I'm spending another day in the garage cursing at myself... What a PITA - may have to return and go back to the old school F&R |

Re: Reversing Contactor - anyone install?
The Reversing contactor has larger higher quality contacts than the rotary style F&R - when properly sized it is not possible the contactor causes a loss of torque. It is possible that damage was done to the cables or the motor while burning up the original F&R (as shown) but again - the reversing contactor is in not reducing torque or we wouldn't be selling it. I have it in my cart for 3 yrs now.
Intermittent operation could be an intermittent connection in the small wires or in the high amperage cables. Did you tighten down all the nuts on the contactor, not just the ones with cables on them? If you have one direction and not the other double check your ground wire is looped to both sides as shown on the install diagram. If you suspect the switch may be the trouble. Leave the center lead in place & swap the 2 outer terminal wires. This should swap the problem direction. IF it does swap the wires back and confirm the results. If you still suspect the switch try using the 2nd row of terminals. Remember to use only the front row and or only the rear row of switch terminals. |

Re: Reversing Contactor - anyone install?
Notice that the diagram is different from original Alltrax / F&R diagram with A1 going to M- on 'original' schematic and A2 going to M- on 'new' schematic - which is correct?

Re: Reversing Contactor - anyone install?
Don't know if this could be anything - but I'm looking for any answer I can at this point.
Contactor states 24 volts - is this the right one or should it state 48 v? |
