Actually pulled 2 controllers apart (many more than that over the years)...upon examination I saw all the semis on the A2 side exploded. I quit using the A2 lug and never had a problem again.

I was wrong in my first post about resistors being used to turn the energy created from the series motor acting as a generator into heat, but the part about the series motor acting as a generator was correct.

Heres a quote from Alltrax.

"Reversing direction with plug brake
The A2 bus bar on the plug brake AXE controllers prevents the drive wheels from locking up. As the motor turns into a generator the voltage at the A2 bus bar increases. The controller senses this condition and shorts out the armature through the plugging diode. Shorting the armature prevents the feedback loop from creating a strong field. The controller can then modulate the field current to control braking force."
