By the way this is how sepex (Shunt) motors increase speed too. They weaken the field. That is what a "Field Map" does in the controller. Once the motor reaches a certain RPM, it starts weakening the field to get more armature current.

Any steep hill (one that will make your calve hurt walking up.) My friend has a 48v rxv and it climbs it no problem at 15+ mph. Mine climbs at a whopping 8-9mph. On flats, he used to beat me. His tops out at 19 or so, but got there much quicker. Now i can hang and pass him, since the "Go Fast Button"

If you don't use this feature too often, you motor will live.

I don't think is a matter of how much is used, but more about when it is used.

Unlike a Sepex system, when the Motor gets into a situation where it needs more torque, the controller has no way to know the motor is operating way outside the safe commutation zone and will allow it to fry if the shunt remains enabled.

It is up to the operator to make the call when to release the Field Weakening button.

We are not posting trying to be negative, just to make sure anyone else reading the thread understands the implications of using this method.

You clearly only want to use this feature when the cart is already up to full speed without it. Starting out with this feature will greatly reduce starting torque and overheat the motor quickly.

if you are up to speed climbing a steep hill (5-7mph) and you hit the button,is that likely to hurt a motor?

Be sure to have a fire extinguisher handy if you do something like that.

Even on level ground, pushing the button at low RPM is going to overheat the motor quickly.

The button shouldn't be pushed unless the motor is at or near its max RPM without shunting the field windings.

A second micro switch at full throttle to engage the solenoid would be pretty cool. Just use less pedal in the low torque situations.
