Default 36v charging system question

I bought what I thought was a 36v to 12v step down. When it arrived it stated 24v input 12V output. I sent the seller a question asking if I received the wrong one. I was told it will work on a 36v as long as it doesn't go over 38v. So now the question. I was told that after an overnight charge the batteries get charged over 36v and during charging there can be up to 40v. Anyone know if this is true? Or can someone explain how the process works. Many thanks in advanced. Went back and put a volt meter and now it shows 41 volts. Is this normal?

A 36v pack will reach the neighborhood of 45v as it nears the end of it's normal charge cycle.

That is true. A full battery pack reads 38.2. Charging voltage could reach as high as 45 volts or so.

Might I suggest a better converter from ScottyB (www.cartsunlimited.net), or a DPI dc converter. Both options are far better than the $20 "China boat special" converter. The DPI is USA made, and has a hassle free 2 year warranty. And everything ScottyB sells is backed by the best support you can find anywhere. (Not sure what that warranty is, 1 year?)
