powerwise charger question
Hi im new to golf carts and rebuilding one for the camper. I've read a lot about this cart in the last few weeks that answered a lot of my questions (this site is AWSOME), but one I cant seem to find any information on it. The cart is a 97 txt series cart came with im guessing original power wise charger. the guy cut end of charger cord off (had it hardwired) and there is two wires coming out besides the 120v plug. is this other wire possibly for a 12v accessory charger? batteries were bad but I was able to charge old batteries to have the charger kick on but didn't, diagnosed bad circuit board switch so couldn't test the second set of wires. both sets of charger leads have three wires like for reed switch.

Re: powerwise charger question
Ya thats what i came up with also. Inside it looks like two wire go to circut board and the third goes to charger ground. I have no idea why they did that. Only reaaon i could come up with is either some how it puts out 14v to charge a 12v acc battery or it pull the 36v charhing voltage from board and bypass everything else since the board switch is bad. As i said before im new to carts so sorry if any of that aound idiotic.

Re: powerwise charger question
No dumb questions here and we all have said something idiotic one time or another.
Pictures of the inside of the charger and any thoughts you have about what is what would be helpful. There are guys here that might be able to figure it out and it is certainly interesting to others also I suspect. I don't recall seeing anything like this before. |

Re: powerwise charger question
Because it was hardwired into the cart, the relay has no way to reset itself. Normally that would be done by unplugging the cart and plugging it back in. Extra wires look to be the cure for that issue.

Re: powerwise charger question
Ok so you think once i fix that relay on the circuit board of the charger the origanal wires will work (assuming everything else is good) i can disconnect that and get rid of the cob job.

If by chance it doesn't work after you fix the cob job, I am selling this.

Re: powerwise charger question
Looks like the extra wires tie into the original 120VAC wiring. If so, that wouldn't reset the relay on the control board. The battery sense wiring has to be interrupted to do that.
Also looks like it has the original two piece control board, but cannot see for sure in pictures. The relay is in the right place for the two piece control board and the visible board does have small Orange and Brown wires connected to it rather than the Red and Black wires of the battery sense circuit. Need pictures showing the relay and wiring better. Something similar to the attached picture. Also, what does the other end of the added cable connect to? |
