Default 2001 EZGO 36v cart. six 6v or three 12v batteries ?

Its time for new batteries for the cart. has anybody tried using three
12v golf cart batteries instead of six 6v batteries.
It seems like less battery connections would be better.
I have to build a new battery rack for it anyway
so making it hold three 12v batteries would work.

You can do it, but I’ve never seen it recommended. As a matter of fact, rxv’s originally had four 12v’s and guys here are always saying to replace with 8v’s. I believe it’s a total ah issue equating to decreased run time. One of the gurus will maybe chime in with the details.

Unless it's a short trip cart only, don't do it. I'm betting you will also be getting 3 "deep cycle" batteries from Walmart to do it. plan on them only lasting you a year and a half before they need replaced, max. Not saving money on that deal in the long run. If I were a buyer, and you were a seller, I would run away. (Assuming the rest of the cart was just as "rigged").

I noticed they sell 12volt golf cart batteries at Battery Source. Wonder if they are better than the "Walmart deep cycle"?

The 12v hold considerably less amperage than the 6v - so run time would be reduced.

Yes, better, but still inferior to the 6v that cart came with. The "real 12v golf cart batteries" are at least designed for the type of cycling abuse golf carts do to batteries.
