cable upgrade done / speed question
I have a 2003 Ezgo txt 36volt. Stock everything, tires, controller, motor, etc. except I just done the heavy duty cable upgrade. Just wondering if I'm getting normal results or if something is acting up before spending money on lift and tires, etc.
So, 415lbs of humanity on board, getting 12 mph top speed on flat pavement. Drops to 8.5 on medium inclines and on a steep incline drops to 3.5 - 4 mph. 39 volts at full charge (batteries few months old) and 38.1 after 6 mile ride. Motor very hot after ride, controller and fnr switch moderately hot. So, whatcha think? |

Re: cable upgrade done / speed question
Looks like the batteries are good. Typical speeds for that cart. They are not fast. The heat in the F&R bears watching. The F&R bus bars are now the weak link in the power route from batteries to motor.
A little concerned that the motor is very hot? Your next step to improve performance would be a HD F&R, Solenoid and 400a Controller |

Re: cable upgrade done / speed question
Thanks, is it normal for the motor to be very hot? I understand the upgraded cables are delivering more amps to the motor. It's too hot to keep bare hand on.

Re: cable upgrade done / speed question
I don't think it should be that hot..... but lets wait for somebody with more 'motor temp' experience to chime in

Re: cable upgrade done / speed question
Is it a PDS cart or a series motor cart?
PDS (sepex) motors will get hot after long periods of high speed running, about 170F degrees is getting up to the the fairly warm, but still safe, range and that is way too hot to put your hand on. Solder doesn't melt until you hit about 335F degrees so the motor should be good up to about 250F degrees. When you replaced the cables did you do all of them or just the ones on the batteries? If it is a PDS cart do you have a speed chip? |

Re: cable upgrade done / speed question
All cables upgraded, batteries, controller, motor leads, etc. Not pds, it's a series cart.

Re: cable upgrade done / speed question
You probably are not going to get more speed out of it without a motor change. ScottyB had some good advice in the 2nd post.
More speed will require a motor rewind by EMP, PlumQuick or new one. |

Re: cable upgrade done / speed question
A 6 mile ride is gonna heat up ANY motor. They were designed to go 250 yards and stop for a few minutes, repeat as needed.
