i do know i have one bad battery! 5.2 volts but does charge to 5.9. between the b- and b+ posts on the speed controller there was a capacitor that has broken off it is an orangish color round with two wire leads coming off of it, does this thing matter if i do not have one on there or not if so where can i get one? the numbers/letters on it are:mdc 2750 55ul (also freakn tiny)

It's called a thermistor. Some carts in that era came from the factory with it and some didn't. It's ok to go without it.

thanks! also, besides the bad battery, i have to "rock" it in forward and reverse to get it to move and then it runs ok, is that a controller issue or just a bad battry. it also has a small red wire haging off that has about 19 volts coming from the ms 4 or 2 . that would be the backup wire? and no i did not check it in forward /reverse or just dont remember. not doing too uch hands on just researching, thanks for ur time!

If it runs in both directions that is usually a very good sign your controller is working.
I'd start with the FNR. Maybe dirty or bad contacts inside the FNR. Easy to take off and inspect. Could that loose wire be orange? IIRC, the orange from factory wiring is 1/2 speed reverse to the double micro but many times wiring has been reworked/redone/etc. so colors may have changed.

Good luck.

Glad I found your post, I thought that was a cap as well. So do I need to jump those two connections without the thermistor?
