![]() I have an 82 model 252, 4 wheel cart. It has lots of slack in the steering (like a 1/2 turn of wheel. How do I adjust or replace the gearbox

![]() I haven't looked at mine but it is probably a period automobile steering box. Marketeer used mid 1950 Chevy steering boxes. The Melex is Polish and I am not sure if anyone figured out if they are proprietary or off of some common period European car. Polski cars were Fiat based. Just looking at mine it is quite heavy and I suspect an automotive origin. It resembles the one in my 1957 Triumph. That box has two adjustments. One is at the end of the column where you can add or remove shims. The other is a hardened set screw that bears on the output shaft to set the peg into the cam tighter.
