91 Electric CC moves in reverse only

This is my Moms car and the shop said they changed the solenoid for that problem but wanted $1400.00 to change batteries and some cables. She didn't have the money so they said they just changed solenoid but it still only runs in reverse. I am going to see her in a few weeks (she is 2.5 hrs from me) and will be changing batteries and trying to make it roll. Any input is helpful as far as things to check, best batteries to use, and best place on Gulf Coast to buy some. It is a 36V machine.

We need to know if it is a resistor coil or controller cart. Resister coil carts have a series or group of bed spring looking resistor coils behind the batteries .......

I only looked at it a couple of months ago to see what voltage it was but I remember things tha resemble heater coils or bed springs so I am guessing resistor type.

That's good it is a fairly cheap system to repair...... bring a Micro switch with you for the F&R .... there is one for forward and one for reverse... likely your forward F&R micro is out = $5 with any luck
