Major Slow Down on Hills
I have a 2004 Club Car Precedent with a speed chip(not sure which one) that will go about 20 mph when I am on flat ground. I have had it about two years. Once you start going up a hill with any incline, the cart slows down almost to a stop. The batteries were 4 years old in it, so two weeks ago I replaced the batteries, hoping that was the issue but the problem still exists. I have asked my local dealer, and they cant really give me an answer. Is this just "the way it is" or is there something that I need to address?

Have you done any mods (wheels and tires, lift, battery cables, etc...), or is it bone stock?

Replaced the battery cables when I bought the new batteries a couple weeks ago. No lift, normal tires.

Re: Major Slow Down on Hills
Welcome to BGW ASU!
So since it runs about 20 mph on flat ground, I am guessing it has speed code 4 installed. With Club Cars, there are no physical chips (like EZGOs) but rather codes that get inputted into the controller with a programmer. Stock carts don't have tons of torque, but it certainly shouldn't be almost stopping on hills. I would check the voltages of each battery with a DVM, then take a load test of each one while driving up a hill. You could have a battery with a bad cell. I have seen this happen a few times with new batts, and it actually happended to me once... |
