Hill climbing
At the end of the summer my DS stopped climbing the hills as easy as before.
I’m guessing it’s time to review the clutches. What do I review and measure to see what needs to be replaced? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Hill climbing
I'd check the belt first. When the engine is stopped, the belt should rest flush, if not slightly above the edges of the rear clutch.
A.worn belt makes a huge difference and only takes about 20 seconds to replace |

Re: Hill climbing
Belt sits where it should in the rear, it’s a bit over the rear pulley when not running. It does shift smooth and the sheeves are very smooth, no abnormal wear.
The front clutch when compressing does not fully lift the belt to the end of the clutch. There is about 1/2” that the belt does not come in contact with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Hill climbing
Sounds like the belt and clutches are working as they should.
May be time for a tune up? Spark plug, oil change, air filter, valve adjustment. |

Re: Hill climbing
I’ve machined the driven clutch and now the belt rides 1/2 extended off the outer edge of the clutch.
I’ve also installed stiffer springs on both driven and drive clutches. I’ll be installing them next week and hopefully I’ll be able to climb hills again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
