Default G14 smokes

Ok, so i just got a 95 G14. Had some Oil leaks, fixed 'em. now that i can run it, she SMOKES like heck while its running and sounds like the piston is Knocking... SO. can i replace the piston (and rings) by just removing the head or do i have to take the engine back out and do major surgery?

Probably going to need an overbore and larger piston. Hopefully it has not been overbored before. Measure measure measure.

Well Crap. i was afraid you guys would say that. i just had the thing out to replace the clutch side case/cover gasket. wish i woulda known it was bad as it is. it wouldnt start cuz of a dead battery when i got it so i never saw the smoking or heard the rattling. just the oil leaks and mess every where.
Thanks for the info

And alas the G 14 was a 2 year engine with a unique bore size making the replacement expensive compared with the earlier G models with the smaller bore.

The option I took was to part mine out on E Bay for $950 and bought an uninstalled VC 460 kit for $800. IF your parts are in good shape especially the ignition parts they sell very quickly on Ebay for about 1/2 list price. Just an option to consider.
