'98 DS gasser voltage regulator?
A campground neighbor has a 98 DS Gasser unmodified. He has been having battery problems for the last month and has had to resort to charging the battery with an automotive charger. Now, the cart won't start and run anymore. With the history, I suspect the voltage regulator isn't allowing a proper charge to the onboard battery. Where is the VR on these carts and can it be tested?

Re: '98 DS gasser voltage regulator?
will it turn over with a jumper on the battery? if it won't even do that it may be more than the vr
the vr is located in the black box by the battery. it has one bolt in the middle and 3 wires coming out of it. |

Re: '98 DS gasser voltage regulator?
Agreed, if it won't crank, the starter/generator is suspect as well as a microswitch somewhere and a solenoid. My info on the symptoms is real sketchy as the cart is not mine. Thanx for the VR location. Is the VR bench-testable?

Re: '98 DS gasser voltage regulator?
that i do not know. it is one of those sealed electrical parts.
I have just always checked the gen. i think it is the small yellow wire you pull and then ground that terminal.(search that one to be sure!) then the gen will put out full volts. if the gen is working, i have just replaced the vr and all has been well. maybe i have been lucky to this point? -A |

Ok, here is a good (but long) thread on the charging & starting system on club cars.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...tor-101-a.html It you read through it, it will give you info on testing the different components. like the title of the post says... "Generator 101" let us know what happens... |

Re: '98 DS gasser voltage regulator?
Put the cart in maintenance mode and check the voltage back to the battery (VOM set at 20v DC) You should be seeing 13.5 14.5 v back to the battery via the generator. The regulator simply restricts over charging and nothing else. Bad grounds will amplify the issue as will poor battery connections and the condition of the battery itself. Are the battery chambers full to the correct levels ?

There's only one, and it's in the same box with the Solenoid, Voltage Regulator, Throttle cables and micro's!
