Default Custom Header

hey guys i got a little welder for christmas and i really want to make a custom header for my 290 but my friend who i bough it from says it can wreck the engine running with no muffler beacuse of the needed backpressure

is this true

Do it if you want to change the "look". Not much (if any) performance gains will be reached. You will HAVE TO put some sort of muffler on it - no back pressure will hurt your motor AND you will have a loss of performance.

I'm saying is that there is better use of your welding time. Exhaust systems are much more complicated than "Hey - Let's take off my stock muffler and make a new one." No offense, but a 9 hp motor is a 9 hp motor! Give it a try, take and post pictures, my bet is that when all said and done, you will
put the stocker back on? Search the site, I think this topic has been discussed a few times before.

yea i searched a bit last night and ive seen people run them with out mufflers just header too me they sound way better and add a few hp and i ran it with out the muffler this morning and it felt like it took off alot better but i do not want to do it it if am going to risk damage to my valves but i have seen people do it with vanguards

I think running it without the mufflier is sorta like running a Vehicle with low/high tire pressure,
You will feel the change immediatly with no obvious change in tire wear.
BUT eventually your tires will show the change in ablormal wear, as will the engine.
Just my thoughts :))

cut both ends of stok muffler and drill two 3/4 inch holes all the way threw and weld back sounds like a harley
