Default 2006 ezgo st 4x4 loud when driving

Hello,
Just bought this one, couldn't resist. Was slipping and a loud hum when I rev the motor up (does it even in neutral. No noise when coasting down hill in neutral). Put new belt on, blew off clutch, a lot of grit black dust came out. Slipping solved.
With belt off, I noticed the input shaft on the transfer case seems to have a lot of play. I am thinking this is where the excessive noise is coming from.
Just looking for input before I start talking apart.
Thank you in advance. Anyone know where I can get manual for transfer case?

Replaced the transfer case fluid. It was really dark, had I hint of burnt smell. I am guessing the neglect has ruined a bearing in the case.

I can't help, but good luck on resolving the issue. I'm sure the gurus will chime in to help out.

You didn't mention removing CVT cover to change belt and to blow out dust. I too have a ST 4x4 that makes a shrill sound under accelleration. I have had transfer case apart and replaced an internal bearing, replaced missing flyweights on the governor spool, and the input and output shaft seals to the rear. I have taken the drive clutch off as well as the driven clutch and disassembled them and replaced the worn pivot bolts for the weights as well as cleaned everything I could access. I also replaced the drive belt. I still have the loud shrill noise at higher speeds. I do not have a good CVT cover and I am assuming that this may be part of my problem.
Let me know if you find a possible remedy. I have posted my issues here as well but I was unable to get any significant help.
I also wonder if it is not "just the nature of the beast".

I got pull the cover and blew off the clutch. Black dust everywhere! But got it clean. Replaced the belt.
I rev'd the motor with the belt off to see if it made the noise- it didn't. Put the new belt , the noise is coming from the tcase.
My noise is not a shrill, more like a loud gear whine. Way to loud to be normal.

Does is seam like your input what on tcase has a lot of play? Mine does, I am busking that is the problem. Will tear down.

Hope these ST's 4wd aren't junk.

Hi
The input shaft should not have a lot of play. By what you describe that the oil smelt burnt and the location of the input shaft being on top (oil has to splash up to lubricate bearings) I would suspect that one or both of the input shaft bearings are bad. I would pull the transfer case and open it up and take a look. Those bearings are easy to replace and if memory serves me right are the same. If you do not have a parts breakdown for that unit you can go to eastcoastcarts.com and download the parts service pdf. If you do need new bearings I would try to get them locally as they are a little pricey thru EZGO. You should replace the seal as well. To get to the transfer case you have to pull both clutches and remove the backplate. You do know that the transfercase uses hydraulic oil that is used for wet brakes. I use John Deere Hygard. If you need more help, contact me with a PM and I will send you my pone# as I would like to compare notes with you.

Hi
I failed to say in earlier post that I do not feel they are junk. They are a very well made unit. The only disappointment I have is that Team Industries does not support their CVT drive system by not supplying parts for them. After getting mine going I truly love this machine. I will eventually find the source of my shrill noise at high speeds and then I will be very happy.

Fixed the transmission. Just needed a new needle bearing. Really reduced the tranny noise. But now I can hear a bearing squeeling in the rear. Let you know what I find.

I know this is an old post but you wouldnt happen to have or know where to get the needle bearings? Where was the bearing in the Transfer case.
