Default driven clutch cover

Can someone tell me what holds the driven clutch cover on a 1986 Marathon? I took the clutch off and the three holes for the cover to fit on have no threads just smooth holes. Do I even need a cover? How much tension does the spring need to have? I can push the clutch together with no problem.

ya it has 3 bolts in the cover (must be stripped)
i have the cover but has'nt been on mine for along time and haev'nt had any problems.
i suppose if your running in mud and crap you will have to wash it off.

not sure what you mean by pushing it together by hand cuz it should already be together when its on the cart.
if you have it off then theres not alot of tension.

good luck, Dew

the 3 holes can be tapped out if they are stripped.they might not be stripped.sometimes they are just missing;as was the case with mine.if they are stripped they can be tapped out to the next size.the bolts are supposed to hold the cover on obviously.the cover keeps the weights and all from getting junk in there and lessening their effectiveness.good luck

The holes in the clutch are as smooth as can be, so I don't think they are stripped. Should I tap them out anyway, or leave the cover off.
