That is not accurate as there are quite few out there from at least two manufactures. BLDC motors are just getting started, and DC motors are on there way out as they cannot match the performance of 3-phase induction motors. There is already a fairly significant market for DIY EV's and they use both AC and DC motors. EV's on the other hand is strictly AC motors. Today you can buy AC motors for golf carts, e-bikes, motor cycles, and cars from several manufactures.

Only downside right now is expense. But like any tech once it catches on and in mass production price is going to come down. EZ-Go was the first to offer AC motors now I think either CC or Yamaha will offer an AC cart in 2015. A few other high end cart manufactures offer AC motors. Just a matter of time all will be AC.

Sunking, Thank you. That is a good idea except here in AZ, winter time is like summer and summer would be better for a donor cart. I will keep an eye out. Kind of partial to Yamaha's. I am cruising CL for street legal carts as I use mine for golf.

I was referring to the new AC 2015 Drive by Yamaha. I am almost 100% positive you will never see a plug and play controller upgrade for it. Heck, Alltrax still does not have a replacement for the 2007+ dc Yamaha Drive carts yet.
