Re: 3pg Rebuild Help
The machine shop seems to think its a lot. Is this from a spec sheet?

Re: 3pg Rebuild Help
I can only speak for what is in the 2pg manual
Piston clearance .0023 - .0036 Bore 2.8350 - 2.8357 piston diameter 2.8321 - 2.8327 ring gap .008 - .016 Having said that, it looks like the 3pg numbers you were given are even tighter. .0012 -.0018 is roughly one and a half thousandths of an inch. That's tight. |

Re: 3pg Rebuild Help
That clearance info is straight from the 1990 3PG service manual.

Re: 3pg Rebuild Help
Interesting that they reduced the compression to 5.8 from 6.0 even with the tighter piston clearance.
I would have thought that they would have tried for a little more performance. On the other hand, they got their 12 mph, and that is all they needed. |

Re: 3pg Rebuild Help
Ok so we got the rebore measurement and it is .003 just in case youd like to know. Shifting to the rebuild I noticed my piston where it connects to the rod does have the bearing and it is good but it has nothing on either side of the bearing and it is able to slide back and forth. Is this and issue? If so where do I get or what can I use to shim that slack?

Re: 3pg Rebuild Help
Got tired of waiting and figured the old setup ran for 3 years so I slapped it back together. It is getting waaaay too much fuel now so I am going to take the carb off tomorrow and clean it good and reset to factory specs and go from there. I cut the fuel and she fired right up and ran progressively better until the fuel ran out. I tried to just crack the fuel cutoff valve but its still too much fuel and floods immediately.

Re: 3pg Rebuild Help
So I went ahead and yanked the carb and cleaned it really good which it was pretty clean. Re installed it and still flooding immediately. I cut the fuel and it runs amazingly until it runs out of fuel...

Re: 3pg Rebuild Help
So I think my throttle linkage is way outta whack. Perhaps the last guy had it set all whacky to make it run till I got it lol. Well now that it's been rebuilt it doesn't need to be half throttle to start and I think that might be the demon I'm fighting as the carb seems really solid.
