Default Broken 9G rear axle.

Picked up a cheap 1993 9G that was "running when parked"

Got the engine running fantastic, but discovered the drivers side axle shaft is broken. The splines are still in the diff, a magnet cannot get that part out, probably stuck in there.

Are these differentials hard to take apart and put back together? I'm afraid I will have to do that to remove the busted part. Anything I should look out for, or just carefully take it apart? Already have the rear end removed from the machine. I've done automotive diffs in the past, but this is new to me.

Spoke too soon, I got it out using a needle nose pliers, it actually came out very nicely.

I drained the oil and it came out nice and clean, no filings whatsoever. Hopefully I can find an axle and I'm good to go.

What years have the same axles? Have to try and find a used one if possible and I'll get some new axle seals at the same time.

I would also rinse it out with diesel a couple times!! Oil is sticky, you don't want small chips hanging around in a bearing or somewhere!!

Fit the 2 pieces of axle together, that will give you an idea of what's still inside!!

Rarely does anything get into the case when the axle splines break. Sounds like po was slaming it from forward to reverse while running

Good idea on rinsing it out, I will do that just in case.

The rest of the cart is in good shape for its age. I was also thinking someone shifted it while it was moving.

If I can't find an axle locally I will contact Tom, thanks for the referral.

I want to pick up a pair of axle seals today. Anybody have a part number or the specs? Going to stop at a bearing/seal shop today and get them. Tried googling but cannot find specs.

I remember the shaft was 22mm (I think) but I can't remember the outside diameter.
