36 volt parcar wont turn off
I have a 1991 Columbia ParCar 36 volt golf cart. When i was driving it last it would not turn off. It keeps going forward without pressing the accelerator even after removing the key it keeps moving. I held the brake while lifting the body and removing the battery cable to turn it off. When i connect the cable the cart wants to go forward.

Re: 36 volt parcar wont turn off
Sounds like you have a stuck solenoid.

Re: 36 volt parcar wont turn off
There are 2 solenoids any way to tell which one may be bad?

Re: 36 volt parcar wont turn off
You could measure continuity on the top posts of the solenoids. When not engaged there should be infinite resistance across the posts.

Re: 36 volt parcar wont turn off
Ok so I replaced both solenoids and everything seemed ok. I drove for about 20 minutes then put the cart on charge for several hours. When I went to drive it later the cart would jerk very hard when taking off like it only had high speed and within aa few minutes the cart would not shut off again. When I lifted the seat to disconnect the battery the resistors were glowing red and wires were starting to melt.

Re: 36 volt parcar wont turn off
Have you tried following the solenoid and troubleshooting in the service manual? (Section 10)

The ID plate from my cart is * 3L - 20033 - DO * Can you confirm this is the correct manual for my cart.

Re: 36 volt parcar wont turn off
D0 is 1990. D1 would have been 1991. You can still get that manual at the same folder location.

Re: 36 volt parcar wont turn off
Thank you. I was looking at the manual for the 1990 Parcar and found some conflicting information. On page 104 Figure 116 shows the battery installation and the connections for the + and - cables. On page 105 Figue 117 there is a full wire diagram but it shows the batteries being terminated different than page 104? Which is correct and why would they be different? I really appreciate your assistance with all my questions.
