G2 spraticly runs sluggish and backfires through the carb
I have a G2 that started running rough and backfiring through the carb. Every once in a while it will run fine for a short period of time. When it does run fine it will continue to until I stop.
I replaced the sparkplug (old one looked good) Air filter (yes the box is sealed good) Fuel filter Fuel pump (yes it pumps fuel fine) Carburetor Replaced the gas No change.... It runs rough and has no power. Then it will run fine for a while. When it runs fine it runs great. Any ideas? What should I change or check next? |

Have you adjusted the valves?
Take a timing light with you and take a drive. When it starts running rough watch the flash of the timing light. Is it smooth and steady or sporadic, irregular, or intermittent? This sounds like a failing ignitor to me, this is what mine did with a bad ignitor. When it started running bad, spark became real irregular. |

Thank you for the quick reply
I have checked the valves and they are good. Was it your coil that went bad or the igniter and was your problem sporadic? |

Re: G2 spraticly runs sluggish and backfires through the carb
With a bad ignitor it would be either fine, and run great. Or very sporadic, popping, backfiring out of the carb, etc.
A bad coil will usually give one spark and then nothing, or provide too weak of a spark to run. Either will typically run better when cold, and then once it starts to warm things up it will all.start to go soutb. |

Agreed! Seen many "intermittent runs poor" ignitors over the years.

Re: G2 spraticly runs sluggish and backfires through the carb
Replacing the igniter fixed the problem! I also rewired the plug which was somewhat corroded, not bad but could easly have contributed to the the problem. I used a g9 igniter.
Thanks for all your help! |
